SAN FRANCISCO, January 18 – Big banks have spent $213bn on constructing new intake/outtake liquefied natural gas (LNG) ports, planet-decimating ‘climate bombs’.
Since 2023, 108 new terminals (8 export, 99 import) have increased the world’s export capacity by 7 per cent, and the global import capacity by 19 per cent.
Big banks have committed funding for completion of another 156 LNG terminal projects (63 export, 93 import) by 2030.
These monstrosities will bleed the equivalent methane of the current annual emissions of all coal-fired facilities combined, 10 billion tons of HEAT during the next five years.
LNG is a dirty fossil fuel. It’s at least 24 per cent worse for the climate than coal.
Globally, almost one million pipeline miles carry LNG. Yet, every 1.2 to 3.8 miles (2-6km) of those pipelines leak methane, stoking more global heating.
Most LNG now comes from fracking. Fracking poisons drinking water and groundwater that’s used to grow food. Fracking contaminates infants. Water is life. Life is water.
Already, according to Berkeley Earth, a climate watchdog, 2024 clocked in a 1.62C, sailing past the Paris Agreement’s 1.5C safe mark.
What does all this mean other than the oligarchs are getting richer whilst the rest of earthly life broils and agonises?
We can expect more flash droughts, heat domes, floods, firestorms, crop failures, insect epidemics, sticker summers, hungrier winters and eerie silence in the wild.
The more we burn fossil fuels, wood pellets and palm oil, the hotter it gets and the faster life expires.
Global heating is the biggest threat to human civilisation that we have ever faced. Animals are cooking alive, ecosystems have collapsed and wilderness is rapidly being plundered.
Earth has recorded the hottest two consecutive years in 125,000 years – and it hasn’t sunk into our consciousness.
The hour has come to face the true and dire situation for life on this planet. Governments have largely abandoned their citizens. So, courage and people power must be harnessed like never before.
There’s a new force of nature at hand, stirring all over the world. They are the young people whom, frankly we have failed, who are angry, who are organised, who are capable of making a difference. They are a MORAL ARMY. And the most important thing that we can do for them, is get the hell outta their way!
