Scientists from Yunnan Centre for Disease and Control Prevention found that Chinese honey contains perchlorate, a poisonous component of rocket and missile fuels, munitions, small fireworks, batteries, airbags and highway and marine signal flares. Perchlorate is a known thyroid disruptor.
It’s one thing if China intends to poison its people, but it’s another matter altogether when poisons are spread around the planet in food. That is, China exports about 156,000 tons of honey annually.
Honey is used in thousands of different products including: candy, spreads, breads, pastries, yogurts, sauces, salad dressings, meads, soups, baked beans, cereals, beverages, root beers, crackers, cookies, honey green teas, snack bars, hot toddies and more.
In 2022, the U.S. imported 130,000 tons of honey. Most of it came from China, but also 25,000 tons originated from Brazil. Brazil is the world leader in hazardous pesticides. Brazilian honey, too, is tainted.
So, what can you do? Substantially reduce, or preferably remove entirely, ultra-processed foods from your diet. A whole food, plant-based diet that’s rich in fruits is healthy, water-smart, easy, affordable and compassionate. Incidentally, it’s also the single biggest thing that YOU can do, right this second, to fight the climate emergency and extinction crisis.
If you use honey, a potent medicine, purchase it from a local beekeeper rather than a supermarket. Procure wild mountain honey because it’s the least poisonous of all bee-pollinated ecosystems. If you don’t know a local beekeeper, Google one.
What we do, each year, to Mother Earth’s biosphere with 250,000,000,000 tons of manmade poisons, we do to ourselves, and ALL the other creatures and their habitats.
WE are consuming the planet to death AND paying the biggest, wealthiest polluters to cook the planet alive, ransack old-growth forests, oceans, wilderness, and kill all the animals, while poisoning the air, water, soils, rivers, lakes and oceans. SCANDALOUS.
