Deadly Palm Oil

Forestry’s highway to hell is simplifying self-organising networks of cooperative biological communities to extinction. Hideous monoculture palm oil plantations are plaguing the planet. It’s a $71bn per annum sickening industry that’s fraught with corruption and escalating destruction. Deadly palm oil plantations are ruining our best defence against climate Armageddon, tropical rainforests.

Palm oil makes up one-third of all the biofuels burned annually. It emits 4X more planet-searing gases per unit than diesel fuel.

So, what can YOU do about it? LOTS!
Refuse to purchase products.

Pernicious palm oil is the backbone of ~50% of ALL packaged goods from ice creams, cookies, peanut butters, and breakfast cereals to cleaning products, laundry detergents, shampoos, lipsticks, body lotions, pet foods and so much more.

Crafty marketers have coined >200 compound words to conceal palm oil within the ingredients list. At first glance, you will not see the word “palm oil”. Rest assured, infuriatingly, it’s there. Some underhanded companies brazenly swap “palm oil” for “vegetable oil” on their lists.

Help defend what remains of SE Asian, Amazon and Congo tropical rainforests by becoming aware of the names for palm oil-derived ingredients. Here are some of the more common names:

  • PKO – Palm Kernel Oil
  • PKO fractionations: Palm Kernel Stearin (PKs); Palm Kernel Olein (PKOo)
  • PHPKO – Partially hydrogenated Palm Oil
  • FP(K)O – Fractionated Palm Oil
  • OPKO – Organic Palm Kernel Oil
  • Palmitate – Vitamin A or Asorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin A Palmitate is a very common ingredient in breakfast cereals and 100% of the samples investigated were derived from palm oil)
  • Palmate
  • Sodium Laureth Sulphate (Can also be from coconut)
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphates (can also be from ricinus oil)
  • Sodium dodecyl Sulphate (SDS or NaDS)
  • Elaeis Guineensis
  • Glyceryl Stearate
  • Stearic Acid
  • Chemicals which contain palm oil
  • Steareth -2
  • Steareth -20
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphate
  • Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (coconut and/or palm)
  • Hydrated palm glycerides
  • Sodium isostearoyl lactylaye (derived from vegetable stearic acid)
  • Cetyl palmitate and octyl palmitate (names with palmitate at the end are usually derived from palm oil, but as in the case of Vitamin A Palmitate, very rarely a company will use a different vegetable oil).

Wilmar International Limited, Golden Agri-Resources Limited, Posco International Corporation, PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, Patanjali Foods Limited, and AAK AB are the six biggest palm oil companies. Cargill, Bunge Limited, KLK Berhad, and IOI Corporation Bhd are the four biggest palm oil suppliers. These evil corporations are annihilating Mother Earth’s remaining tropical rainforestspeatlandssoilsanimalswaterways and cooking the climate.

Scrutinise every product and reject those goods that contain palm oil. Let’s band together and punish these despicable Mother-loathers by denying them their longed-for profits!

  1. Reece what an incredible article thank you for your work and activism. On my website you can find out the latest on the activities of global supermarket brands and their palm oil greenwashing in the guise of “sustainable” palm oil, and also brands that you can find in supermarkets and online that are palm oil free. Keep up the fight and #Boycottpalmoil #Boycott4Wildlife
