Planet-Killing Soviet Pollution

Minus fifty degrees Siberian berezhlivyy,
Ancient Gmelin larches, Siberian dwarf pines,
Nana willows, balsam poplars,
Tenacious festina lente,
Timeless, noble yet vulnerable.

Gold, silver, black gold fever!
Magadan Oblast, Yano-Kolyma,
Goltsovoye, Natalka,
Omusskchansky Coal Cluster mines,
Eureka! Riches galore.

Tear down ancient ones,
Gargantuan open-pit scares, first gulags,
Millions buried to unearth,
Far North Eastern Siberia,
Seven-and-a-half hours Moscow plane.

Toxicity upon pollution, sodium cyanide,
There’s gold in thar heap leaching,
Slag! No worries boundless hinterland.
Animals forests soils water air, no voice.
Petrified Soviet Union people cast aside.

Goltsovoye Silver Mine,
Largest on globe,
Mercury lead poisonous sufficiency.
East Mining one hundred million carbon tons,
Coal cluster, acid mine drainage Mother’s veins.

Omsukchan children inhaling sable soot,
Playing in serried coal-coated snow.
Arctic Circle forgotten time warp,
Hellish Seimchan coal-fired plant, destitute filters.
Official’s lip “is not reason to worry!”,
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin tsar,
Children gasp Black Lung Disease roots.
